Welcome to Maunawili! Hawaii is so beautiful and I’m glad I got to see this part of the island.
I felt like I was in an episode of Lost! On the day we went, there was a rain cloud just above the hiking area, so we knew we were about to enter a wet muddy jungle. Depending on your speed, the 1-1/2 mile hike can take anywhere between 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

It sprinkled at first…and started pouring once we got to the waterfall.
Be prepared to jump on plenty of rocks…Balance is key!

We went with someone who knew the trails… which was not a bad idea. This site shows you the trail elevation.

People told us you can do Maunawili with shoes or flip-flops. My sister did it “survivor style,” she had to walk the whole way barefoot because her flip-flops were too slippery. Ouch!
Bring mosquito repellant too.

Feeling refreshed- you can’t see the rain, but the water kept us feeling cool.

Victory at last! The waterfall is the best part.
After a little hesitation everyone jumped, including me! (not pictured) 🙂
