Hamilton Island has excellent weather at any time of year—the average temperature is 27°C. October to December is the most popular time of year to visit.

Best Things To Do with Kids on Hamilton Island 

  1. Visit Whitehaven Beach – One of my favorite beaches in Australia! Whitehaven Beach is a must-visit on your trip to Hamilton Island. 
  2. Swim at Catseye Beach – This beach is perfect for families because it has calm waters. At low tide, you can take a walk and explore the reef. 
  3. Go for a Bushwalk – Bring the little ones along for an adventure. Hike Passage Peak Hike or stroll to the Resort Lookout Hike.  
  4. Check out the Sunset at One Tree Hill – Arrive early! Everyone on the island has plans to watch the sunset here, so it gets pretty busy. Bring a picnic and enjoy the view of the stunning islands and Great Barrier Reef. 
  5. Swim in the Island Pools – Bouganvilla Pool is located just behind Catseye Beach, and it’s great for little ones. Main pool has a swim-up bar, and Dolphin Pool is open all day. 
  6. Take an island tour on a Buggy – When you rent a buggy, you can request a car seat for your baby or toddler. Explore the island with your family and feel the ocean breeze in your hair. 
  7. Visit the Point Henning Duck Pond – Take your little ones on a stroll around the pond. There is an undercover gazebo with a table and chairs, a BBQ and toilet facilities.
  8. Explore the Marina – The Hamilton Island Marina is a great place to shop, dine, and people-watch. There are a number of different restaurants and shops at the marina, as well as a children’s playground.

Plan activities and make dinner reservations in advance because it can get pretty busy during peak season. 

Rent a buggy.

There are no cars on Hamilton Island. Explore the island via buggy and request a car seat. If you don’t have a buggy, it’s a 10-minute walk from Catseye Beach to the marina. There is also a free shuttle that takes you from the hotels to the marina.

Choose the right accommodation.

If you’re traveling with little ones who might need a nap during lunchtime, check out the self-contained apartments. You can prep some meals in your hotel instead of eating out.
