Best Sun Hats for Travel
The sun’s rays can take a toll on your skin, causing spots, aging, and even worse, skin cancer. While I love spending time outdoors, sun protection is super important, and it’s not something I take likely. Here are some of my favorite hat styles for traveling, beach days, and outdoor adventures.

Floppy Sun Hat: A Must-Have Item for Tropical Vacations
This Women’s Boho Hat is perfect for days spent at the beach or relaxing at the resort pool in Uluwatu. Relax and unwind while sipping on a mojito or margarita in paradise. This floppy sun hat features a striped weave feature in a natural tone, making it easy to mix and max with several outfits. Be sun safe and style this sun hat with your favorite boho dress or sustainably made bikini or one-piece.
Chin Strap Hats
Lack of Color has done it again and created the ultimate bucket style hat for long fashionable days at the beach. This Australian hat company designs boho style hats for men, women, and kids. Many of their hats also feature UPF protection. The adjustable neck tie helps secure the hat on your head to keep it in place when it gets windy. It’s made from 100% cotton canvas.
Lack of Color Sizing:
- S/M suitable for 55-56 cm
- M/L suitable for 57-58 cm
If you love hiking, adventures, and outdoor activities, don’t leave home without a baseball cap or trucker hat. This North Face style has a classic fit with breathable mesh backing for those intense workouts or rugged hikes.
Bucket Hats for Beach Babes
Bucket hats are big this season and for good reason. They’re cute, stylish, and practical to repel the sun’s harmful rays. This cotton cord bucket hat for women looks cute with denim and a cropped tee or shorts and a bikini. Wear it to the beach, sightseeing and toss it in your beach bag or carry on for easy transport.
Panama Hat: City Chic Travel
Travel in style with this wool felt Panama hat. Ladies, although it’s got a stiffened brim, you’ll want to avoid stuffing it into a carry-on. A feature we love is the leather chin strap and clamp because you can carry it without actually wearing it all the time. Pair it with your favorite double denim look or sundress.
Luxury Style Wide Brim Hat
A wide-brimmed beach hat is the perfect sunny day staple to your vacation wardrobe. During your holiday, limit your sun exposure and avoid peak hours. Use proper sun protection, because we all know sunburns are no joke!

Travel Hacks: Here’s how to pack your sun hats
If you’ve ever tried to pack a straw hat inside your suitcase, you know that it takes a lot of strategic planning to make sure it doesn’t crease or get damaged while you’re jet-setting to your holiday destination. Usually, I just wear my hat to the airport, so I know that it will arrive in perfect shape.
If, for some reason, you can’t wear or carry your hat, turn your hat upside down, fill the inside, and carefully pack your clothes to make sure it looks as good as new when you’re ready to unpack.
If you don’t want to deal with the stress, there are plenty of packable hats and roll up styles on this list, so you don’t have to worry. I also recommend traveling with a hat holder to keep your hands free while traveling. Secure your floppy sun hat onto your purse or luggage while you move from one destination to the next.
Summer Vacation Packing Tips
- Bathing suits
- Flowy Dresses – These are some of my favorite boho brands.
- Shorts and Casual Tees – Opt for comfortable and breathable fabrics since you’ll be out exploring all day.
- Comfortable flats – Pack a pair of shoes you can walk in for hours and hiking boots if you’re planning on exploring new trails.
- A lightweight rain jacket – You never know when you might catch a tropical rain shower, pack a lightweight jacket in your bag just in case.
- Travel Bag – I usually travel with a carry-on, but I always bring a backpack or small bag for hiking and beach days.
- And of course, don’t forget your favorite hat for sun protection and looking glam on the gram!
