Why I’m Taking A Travel Break

I’ve been given the gift of time.

Let me explain and bring you up to speed…

I’ve been working as a reporter at KHON2 News in Hawaii for 2 years, and living on the island of Oahu for nearly 3 years.  It’s been a magical ride… from hiking mountains with the most breathtaking views, to swimming in crystal clear waters with turtles and sharks in Hawaii.  I’ve met the most amazing people, made life lasting friendships and I’ve learned more than anything what matters most in life.

The Hawaiian Islands take my breath away, but I’ve decided to take a travel break.

Here’s why…

Well it all boiled down to time.  Time I want to spend with my family, my newborn nephew and friends back home in California.  It was a hard decision to make, but I decided not to renew my work contract and I’ll be moving back to Cali in mid-August.

I know you are probably thinking… what is she doing!

Well here is the thing, once a traveler always a traveler and I want to take some time to explore new countries and I’ve always been one to take risks and start something new.

My plan is simple.

Reconnect with people I love and spend as much time with them as I can.  I also want to visit Europe, travel to Alaska and explore my home state of California.

In case you haven’t figured it out by now… I absolutely love living in Hawaii and I’d like to think of this as “I’ll be right back”— instead of a goodbye.

Here is what happened that helped shape this journey…

Earlier this year, I won a National Parks pass to visit any National Park in the country for a year and a few months later I won a suitcase and travel accessories on Instagram.

I mean… who wins a suitcase and a parks pass?  Wouldn’t you take advantage of an opportunity like that?

I’m not really sure how long I’ll be in the Golden State, but I plan on spending time in San Diego and Los Angeles for sure.  If you want to connect, I’d love to catch up and spend time with you.  Let’s explore something new together or send me suggestions of some must do hikes or places to visit.

To all my travel buddies all over the world, let’s link up.  I’ll be traveling solo and ready for new adventures.

I’ll be changing my number soon, and posting travel updates here on my blog but you can always reach me via email, on the blog or via social media at @alexcerball.

What would you do if you had more time? Where would you go? Who would you spend it with?  What adventures would you get into?

I’d love to hear your feedback.  Thank you for your continued support.

Always With Aloha,

Alex

  1. Aloha Alex,
I’ve followed you while you share information, news and stories….I appreciated your willingness to connect with your audience and although I’m sure it take an enormous amount of effort, you’ve always seem to manage that relationship with grace and flair.

I envy your decision because there is so many stones to turn over and gaze at the wonderment of what is there as an offering. It’s truly important to “experience” as much as opportunity presents itself and you seem to have found or made that space for yourself. As a follower and fan, I would like to wish you the best, safe travels and Hawaii will always be a home for you. Please continue to share your amazing adventures. All the best! Rob Lee

    1. Aloha Kerry,
Are you guys back at Ala Moana? I am going to miss our noon Friday SUP sessions. There is no better way to spend an afternoon than in the ocean. Thanks for introducing me to prone paddling and helping me perfect my turns on the SUP.
Sending lots of hugs and aloha to the team!
