Into the Wild

Okay, okay, I know I have been lagging on the posts, but we’ve been moving around alot this past week.

We spent 8 days in Huaraz, Peru… a truly beautiful place where you can go on breath-taking hikes. The altitude is a challenge for most people… especially me! I had to go to the hospital after a few days, to get some oxygen, and medicine. My lungs needed air, and lack of it was totally kicking my butt. The doctor gave me an inhaler and that sort of helped. Of course, Chris had no problems at all, so he went on a hike just about every day.

We stayed at the Cayesh hostel in Huaraz. The owner was so cool, she told us we didn’t have to pay her for one night, since we spent so much time there. I wasn’t going to argue with that! Thanks Marie!

The food in Huaraz is sooo good, and we went to a brewery that sold beer made with coca leaves. Interesting and delicious!

I only made it on two hikes… Ahuac and Laguna 69. It took us about 3 hours to get to Laguna 69 from Huaraz. We left at 6 30 a.m. and spent most of the day climbing the mountain to get to the crystal clear blue lagoon at the top. The way there was unreal, so many amazing waterfalls, and we walked by wild horses, donkeys, cows and bulls.

Now we are back in Lima… and we are supposed to meet my sister in Cusco on the 7th. I’m dragging Chris to Huacachina so we can go sandboarding before heading to Machu Picchu!
